Athens area school districts publish weekly COVID-19 reports for cases among staff and students.
A school-aged data report is also generated weekly by the Georgia Department of Public Health. The most recent report was released Aug. 27.
The report breaks down grouping by age: preschool and daycare-aged children, from ages 0 to 4 years old; K-12 school-aged children, from ages 5 to 17 years old; and college and professional school-aged adults, from ages 18 to 22 years old; and then adults who are 23 years or older.
Clarke County
Clarke County School District has unveiled a dashboard updated hourly with COVID-19 data.
As of Friday afternoon, there had been 288 new confirmed cases in the past week and 442 confirmed cases in the past 30 days. Nearly 7% of students and staff are currently in quarantine across the district.
DPH’s school-aged data report shows that in the last 14 days, Clarke County reported:
- 29 cases of COVID-19 in the preschool age group, an increase from the last report
- 195 cases in the K-12 age group, an increase from the last report
- 190 cases in the college-age group, an increase from the last report
- 489 cases in the adult age group, an increase from the last report

Oconee County
As of 4 p.m Aug. 27 — 18 days into the school year — Oconee County School District reported that out of the 9,525 in-person students and staff, there were 76 active COVID-19 cases or just less than 1% of staff and students.
DPH’s school-aged data report shows that in the last 14 days, Oconee County reported:
- 6 cases of COVID-19 in the preschool age group, the same as the last report
- 82 cases in the K-12 age group, an increase from the last report
- 24 cases in the college-age group, an increase from the last report
- 155 cases in the adult age group, an increase from the last report
Madison County
As of Aug. 27, Madison County Charter School District reported that there were 91 students with a current, positive COVID status and there were 19 employees with a current, positive COVID status
DPH’s school-aged data report shows that in the last 14 days, Madison County reported:
- 16 cases of COVID-19 in the preschool age group, an increase from the last report
- 67 cases in the K-12 age group, an increase from the last report
- 23 cases in the college-age group, an increase from the last report
- 168 cases in the adult age group, an increase from the last report
Jackson County
For the week of Aug. 20- Aug. 26, Jackson County School System reported that there were 234 new positive cases in the last week, or 2.2% of students and staff, and 476 new quarantines in the last week.
DPH’s school-aged data report shows that in the last 14 days, Jackson County reported:
- 23 cases of COVID-19 in the preschool age group, an increase from the last report
- 271 cases in the K-12 age group, an increase from the last report
- 49 cases in the college-age group, an increase from the last report
- 525 cases in the adult age group, an increase from the last report
Oglethorpe County
Friday evening, Oglethorpe County Schools reported that there were 40 active cases in the school system, or 1.5% of staff and students. There were zero cases at the primary school, 10 cases at the elementary school, 16 cases at the middle school, 13 cases at the high school and one other case.

- 3 cases of COVID-19 in the preschool age group, an increase from the last report
- 14 cases in the K-12 age group, an increase from the last report
- 4 cases in the college-age group, a decrease from the last report
- 57 cases in the adult age group, an increase from the last report
Barrow County
The weekly update for the week ending on Aug. 27 for Barrow County School System was not available as of Friday evening.
DPH’s school-aged data report shows that in the last 14 days, Barrow County reported:
- 18 cases of COVID-19 in the preschool age group, a decrease from the last report
- 236 cases in the K-12 age group, an increase from the last report
- 49 cases in the college-age group, an increase from the last report
- 475 cases in the adult age group, an increase from the last report
