Coronavirus LIVE Updates: India Administers 87.72 Lakh Jabs by 6pm Today, Set to Touch 1 Crore-mark

Coronavirus LIVE Updates:  India on Friday administered 87.72 lakh doses of Covid-19 vaccine by 6pm. With this, India has also achieved its highly weekly vaccination figure ever of almost 4.5 crore doses in the August 21-27 week. August is already India’s biggest vaccination month with nearly 15 crore doses given so far.

The Kerala government has decided to continue with lockdown on Sunday due to worrisome surge in Covid-19 cases. Earlier, the government had given exemption to Sunday lockdowns in the last two weeks.

Kerala reported over 30,000 new Covid cases for the third day in a row on Friday. on Friday, Kerala registered 32,801 new Covid-19 positive cases and 179 deaths. According to the state health bulletin, 1,79,703 samples were tested in the past 24 hours.

Delhi Education Minister Manish Sisodia has announced to resume schools, colleges, coaching activities in the national capital with all precautions, in a phased manner. “From September 1, classes for standard 9-12 in all schools, their coaching classes as well as all colleges/universities will be permitted to resume,” he said during a presser.

Meanwhile, the drug regulator on Friday approved Reliance Life Sciences’ application to conduct clinical trials of its recombinant protein-based Covid-19 vaccine candidate. The approval was given after the subject expert committee (SEC) reviewed its application during a meeting. Reliance had sought the regulator’s approval to conduct Phase 1 trial of its proposed two-dose vaccine. Through Phase 1, Reliance wants to obtain information on safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics and mechanism of action of drugs.

The health ministry has come out with a revised set of guidelines on domestic travel, advising states to exempt fully vaccinated travelers from the mandatory requirement of furnishing a negative RT-PCR test or RAT report on entry. This comes even as some states are demanding negative Covid test reports on entry from travelers, irrespective of their vaccination status.
