David Montgomery has suffered a knee/ankle injury, and fans of the Chicago Bears are in a rightful state of panic.

Late in the first quarter against the Houston Texans, Chicago Bears running back David Montgomery suffered a lower-body injury.

Chicago’s backup running back, Khalil Herbert, entered the game and helped the Bears take a 10-0 lead, but Montgomery left the blue medical tent and headed slowly to the locker room.

You never want to see any player injured, but Chicago already was without several key contributors, including Jaylon Johnson, who didn’t dress for the game. Additionally, Byron Pringle also left during the early part of the game.

David Montgomery injury update

So far this season, Montgomery has been the focal point of the Chicago Bears offense, despite the pleas for Justin Fields to throw the ball more. Against San Francisco and Green Bay, Montgomery has been the engine of the team.

Losing him for any amount of time would be a massive blow. Moreover, though Herbert and rookie Trestan Ebner are capable of carrying the ball and helping move the chains, Montgomery is in a contract year. Also, he is a respected leader despite not having a captain’s patch on his jersey.

Injuries hurt, and here’s hoping Montgomery will be back on the field very soon as his absence leaves a significant hole in the Chicago Bears backfield.

We’ll have more on this story as it becomes available.
