Texas football reportedly suffers two devastating season-ending injuries

Texas football’s climb back to college football relevance just got a bit harder with two major injuries hitting the offense during Saturday’s scrimmage.

The Texas Longhorns are coming into the 2022 season with one of the most promising offenses in the Big 12 thanks to the return of running back Bijan Robinson and the arrival of five-star Ohio State transfer Quinn Ewers.

However, the supporting cast for the Heisman candidate running back and the highly-anticipated quarterback got badly bitten by the injury bug this weekend.

According to reports, Saturday’s practice had devastating results with wide receiver Isaiah Neyor and offensive lineman Junior Angilau suffering season-ending knee injuries, per Geoff Ketchum of Orangebloods.

Texas football injuries: Isaiah Neyor and Junior Angilau out for season

Neyor transferred from Wyoming where he led the Cowboys with 878 yards and 12 touchdowns receiving. He was expected to add another weapon to a receiving corps returning first-team All-Big-12 selection Xavier Worthy and Jordan Whittington.

The Neyor injury is particularly unfortunate as the Longhorns just suspended Alabama transfer Agiye Hall for a criminal mischief arrest.

Worthy and Whittington can certainly hold down the fort themselves but the reinforcements Texas expected from the transfer portal are now out with injury or uncertain due to legal troubles.

Angilau could be an even bigger loss as a turning starter on the offensive line with 34 games of starting experience under his belt. He was one of three returning starters up front for the Longhorns. His absence could thrust five-star freshman Devon Campbell into action earlier than expected. Campbell may be an excellent prospect but relying on freshmen on the offensive line is never a good place to be in.
