Bears trade rumors, Justin Fields

The Bears are in the midst of a roster rebuild. That’s why Chicago should consider trading these three players in the offseason.

Finishing last in the NFC North won’t be good enough for the Bears in 2023. That’s why GM Ryan Poles and his staff will be making plenty of roster changes in Chicago this offseason.

Signing free agents and executing a solid draft plan are the two most important tenets of a successful NFL offseason, but the trade market shouldn’t be ignored. The Bears have several prominent players who they should field calls on in the coming weeks.

The first player on this list represents a controversial take, but he hasn’t done quite enough in his brief professional career to be untouchable in trade talks.

3. Justin Fields

Conventional wisdom has the Bears dealing the No. 1 overall selection in this year’s draft to a team that falls in love with a quarterback in this year’s class. That isn’t the only option available to the team’s front office.

If the Brains’ brain trust harbors real doubts about Fields’ ability to be a top-flight signal caller then they should quietly let teams know they’re willing to deal him this offseason. There’s nothing stopping Chicago from resetting things at the quarterback position by taking a prospect they believe to be superior to Fields with the first pick.

At the very least, the Bears should be listening if calls inquire regarding Fields’ availability. If there’s a team out there willing to give up multiple first-rounders and a young player with upside then Chicago should at least consider making a change. The chances of Fields being dealt this offseason are slim but it’s not an outlandish idea for a team that is still several years away from contention.
