The Kansas City Chiefs have a spots within their roster which need replacing, thanks to free agency, and they could do so via the 2023 NFL Draft
Although the Kansas City Chiefs are the reigning Super Bowl Champions, each offseason brings to light the reality in which every NFL franchise starts with a blank slate.
The Chiefs are on to the 2023 season, and if they are to repeat as Super Bowl champs, general manager Brett Veach is going to have to do some serious work in the upcoming draft. Now, that’s not to say the Chiefs couldn’t repeat solely based on the fact that they have the best quarterback in the galaxy.
But, there are some holes left by free agents that have yet to be filled. Fortunately, Kansas City comes into the draft with plenty of capital to spend. Let’s take a look at four key free agents the Chiefs could replace in a couple of weeks when the draft rolls around.
Chiefs free agents who could be replaced in the 2023 NFL Draft: Jerick McKinnon, RB
Who would have guessed Jerick McKinnon to be the secret sauce down the stretch for the Chiefs? What an unbelievable second half of the season McKinnon had. He was used in a variety of ways, and truly shined as a pass-catcher.
Still out there looking for his next home, McKinnon could wind up being replaced in the draft if the Chiefs wanted to find a younger option to give themselves longevity at the position.
If Kansas City is looking at the top pass-catching back in the draft, that’s Alabama’s Jahmyr Gibbs, without question. He very well could be worth the last pick in the first round, but most have him pegged as a second rounder.
Should the Chiefs look a little later on, one of the more intriguing options is Kansas State’s Deuce Vaughn. Very undersized at 5-foot-5, Vaughn is also explosive and slippery in space. He caught 117 passes over the last three years and is no stranger to being a threat in the passing game.
