Former USC receiver Bru McCoy transfers to Tennessee due to the program’s culture

Former USC and Texas wide receiver Bru McCoy picked Tennessee as his transfer destination because of the Volunteers’ team culture.

Bru McCoy is set to complete the third transfer of his college career, this time with Tennessee football.

The former USC Trojan transferred to Texas after a week of enrollment in 2019 then transferred back to USC after his first and only spring camp in Austin and will now try to get his career rolling in Knoxville.

His reasoning for joining the Volunteers? According to his father Horace McCoy, it’s all about culture.

“There were a lot of factors that went in to his decision,” Horace told 247Sports.
“A big one was the culture at Tennessee. We met the players and the entire coaching staff and everything they talked up lined up when we saw them in action.

“We watched a practice and just saw how the players and coaches interact on and off the field. He wanted to be around a positive culture in a great learning environment with players who want to be there and it just felt like home for Bru right away.”

McCoy sat out the 2019 season while recovering from an illness. He had 21 catches for 236 yards and two touchdowns in his debut in 2020, while also recovering a critical onside kick for the Trojans.

However, he did not play in 2021 after being arrested for “intimate partner violence with injury.” Even though prosecutors decided not to file charges, USC did not let him return to the football team under university policies.

McCoy opted to enter the transfer portal in January, ending speculation of a potential return for the Trojans under new head coach Lincoln Riley.

The former five-star prospect has a chance to be an impact player for Josh Heupel and company. He has three years of eligibility remaining.
