Damian Lillard’s sad tweets about NBA career are genuinely concerning by Mark Powell

The San Diego Padres could already regret their decision to sign free agent Robinson Cano. In his first game, Cano committed a brutal error at second base.

On the surface, signing Cano made sense for the Pads. Despite his past with PEDs, Cano has a big bat and can produce at the plate.

However, at this stage of his career it’s fair to question whether or not he’s better suited for the DH slot, rather than the field. Everyday second baseman isn’t a role Cano, or Padres fans for that matter, should be comfortable with.

In his first game as a Padre against the Atlanta Braves on Sunday, Cano made an awful error, allowing a run to score.

Padres: Robinson Cano isn’t the fielder he once was

Cano won two Gold Gloves early in his career with the New York Yankees. However, once he was traded to the Mets in a mega-deal that sent Edwin Diaz to Queens as well, he fell off a cliff and dealt with PED allegations to boot.

Two suspensions by MLB later, and Cano’s apologies to teammates fell on deaf ears. He was released by the Mets, and quickly signed on with San Diego.

Cano did show up to spring training in very good shape, per most reports. His play backed that up, as well. In time, having Cano as a regular or even bench bat could prove valuable in San Diego.

This was just…a rough start.
