A Houston Astros fan ran onto the field and appeared to try and take a selfie with star second baseman Jose Altuve prior to the ninth inning of Game 2.

Jose Altuve is one of the more well-renowned players in all of baseball. He is beloved in Houston, and loathed pretty much everywhere else he plays due to the Astros sign-stealing scandal.

Before the ninth inning at Minute Maid Park, an Astros fan ran onto the field toward Altuve. With his phone out, the fan wanted to take a selfie with the 32-year-old.

Before Altuve had time to oblige, the fan was tackled by Minute Maid Park security, and rightly so. There is a time and place for fan photos, and it surely isn’t in the middle of a game, on the field itself.

Obviously, fans shouldn’t run onto the field. Whether it be a streaker, or in this case a man searching for a selfie — it’s not appropriate during the middle of a baseball game.

Thankfully, Altuve wasn’t harmed, and the man was taken into custody before the situation got out of hand.

Altuve, who is in the midst of a brutal slump to start the postseason, didn’t seem to mind the attention. Despite another hitless night, his Astros remain undefeated in the 2022 postseason.

As you can tell, this ‘worrying moment’ did not end in controversy. Said fan only wanted a word with Altuve, and evidently a hug and selfie? What’s so scary about this, however, is that any spectator was able to run at Altuve in the middle of the field of play without security interfering.

What the hell is going on? This is the ALCS, no?
