Last year, the Wyoming Cowboys made a run to the big dance, but they can keep their dancing shoes in the closet this year.
The Cowboys are 8-18 overall and 3-11 in the Mountain West. In one year’s time they’ve sunk all the way to the bottom of the conference.
Utah State on the other side is 21-7 (10-5). It is 2-2 in its last four after dropping back-to-back games against San Diego State and San Jose State.
Then, it flipped it around and beat Air Force and Nevada.
The Utah State Aggies are favorites on the road up in Wyoming tonight.
Let’s take a look at the odds.
Utah State vs. Wyoming odds, spread and total
Utah State vs. Wyoming prediction and pick
Last time these two teams met was back on Jan. 10, and Utah State rolled to an 83-63 win at home.
It’s a different venue tonight, but I’m not sure there will be much of a different outcome. Utah State is 15th in offensive efficiency with Steven Ashworth and Taylor Funk leading them in scoring.
The Aggies are the best shooting team in college basketball, hitting 40.5% from 3. So, despite their slower pace of play, they can score with just about anybody.
Wyoming is 329th at defending the 3-point line, allowing their opponents to hit 36.7% from deep. Wyoming is giving up 71.5 points a game and is 306th in defensive efficiency. Taylor Funk had 22 points in the last meeting on 4-for-8 from 3.
The Aggies got a 20 point win on 8-of-18 from 3. They average 24 three point attempts a game. If they shot it from deep more, then they could have won even bigger.
Pick: Utah State -6 (-110)
