NFL rumors: 3 teams that should try to trade for Saquon Barkley amid Giants issues

Saquon Barkley and the New York Giants could be barrelling for a trade. These teams should try to get in on the action and see if they can acquire him.

Saquon Barkley has yet to sign his franchise tag from the New York Giants, and the latest NFL rumors indicate that he isn’t motivated to sign it anytime soon.

At this point, the options really come down one of three ways: Barkley could cave, and sign the tag. Secondly, the two sides could negotiate a multi-year deal separate from the tag. Thirdly, the Giants and Barkley could cooperate to find him a new home altogether.

The third option isn’t exactly ideal for the Giants, and not necessarily ideal for Barkley, either. But at this point, it might be the best way forward if the relationship between team and player is that fractured.

If the two sides do look toward that option, these teams should be on the horn. We’ll look at three legit options, but first, an honorable mention that probably won’t be in the running for cap space reasons.

Of note, all of these teams are in the opposite conference, and in the real world the Giants won’t be motivated to trade him anywhere in the NFC if they can help it.

Honorable mention: Buffalo Bills

Thanks to all the money they’ve doled out to stars like Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs, the Buffalo Bills don’t have a ton of flexibility. Presumably, the team trading for Barkley would trade for his franchise tag amount or somewhere in that ballpark, so they would need a little over $10 million to fit him into the equation unless the Giants pick up some of the salary or other balacing moves are made.

Right now the Bills have about $5.5 million in cap space.

While Buffalo could use a running back after watching Devin Singletary walk to the Texans, this probably isn’t a possible solution in the real world.
