British star Gavin Gwynne was left unable to see out of right eye after suffering a gruesome injury on the undercard of Anthony Joshua and Francis Ngannou‘s event.

The 33-year-old took to the ring on Friday as one of the earlier bouts in Riyadh, as Joshua and Ngannou prepare to go toe-to-toe in a night dubbed ‘Knockout Chaos’.

However, it was not the performance that Gwynne would’ve hoped for after he was left with a nasty eye injury courtesy of his opponent Mark Chamberlain.

The fight lasted for just four rounds after Chamberlain landed some big blows early on that opened up a nasty cut about Gwynne’s right eye.

Gwynne then struggled to combat Chamberlain’s attacks, as the latter looked to pile on the pressure and target the swelling that had started to show.

In the third-round, Chamberlain increased the intensity in the bout before landing a huge right-hook flush on the swollen eye – which threatened to end the fight.

Despite doctors checking the eye and saying that he could continue, just one round later, Gwynne’s team threw in the towel after a vicious attack by Chamberlain.

Gwynne had his back against the ropes as Chamberlain landed a number of heavy blows to the head and body of his opponent before the bout was waved off.

In doing so, Chamberlain extended his unbeaten professional record to 15-0, while Gwynne was dealt his third career loss.

The bout came immediately after South African heavyweight Kevin Lerena lost via unanimous decision on the Anthony Joshua vs Francis Ngannou undercard.

In the 10th round, Lerena had his opponent Justis Huni staggering around the ring after landing a number of heavy blows to his opponent.

Huini, 24, was clearly hurt from Lerena’s punches, as he wobbled backwards, but managed to see out the round before eventually claiming the decision win.

The defeat was Lerena’s second in four bouts – having lost via KO to Daniel Dubois back in December 2022.
