Taking a look at the biggest longshot to win the Kentucky Derby and who has that honor in the 148th Run for the Roses at Churchill Downs.

This Saturday will be the long-awaited Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs. It will be the 148th running and could be one of the most exciting races in years.

This year’s race features 20 horses who will battle it out for the top prize. The most exciting two minutes in sports will begin at 6:57 pm ET. Among the favorites to win the race include horses Epicenter and Taiba. Zandon is another great choice who is just behind the favorites.

In every race, the spotlight shines brightest on the favorites. But it is always fun to take a look at some longshots. But who is the biggest longshot to ever win and the biggest in this year’s race? Let’s take a look.

Kentucky Derby: Biggest longshot to win

While everyone loves a good underdog story, there are very few people alive that remember when the biggest longshot to win the Kentucky Derby.

That’s because it was back in 1913 when Donerail took the post at 91-1 odds to win the Run for the Roses. He went on to upset every horse in the field, including an 11-5 favorite in the field. However, if the biggest underdog in this year’s race were to win, that would be the new record.

Kentucky Derby 2022: Rich Strike is the biggest longshot

Rich Strike was drawn into the field after Ethereal Road scratched from the race and sits with consensus odds around 96-1, per the NBC broadcast.

This will be the horse’s fourth race this year and he is without a first-place finish. Rich Strike is a chestnut colt born and trained in Kentucky. The horse was born in 2019 and is currently trained by Eric Reed. Rich Strike will be jockeyed by Sonny Leon who has plenty of experience. Leon has started 5,175 races and earned 769 top placed finishes. Leon was also ranked as the 11th best jockey by wins in 2021 so Rich Strike should be in great hands on Saturday night.
