UFC 278: Pros react to Leon Edwards dramatic, championship-winning KO (Video) by Thomas Albano

Here’s a round-up of everything “The Notorious” Conor McGregor thought of UFC 278, including the incredible upset by Leon Edwards

While former UFC champion Conor McGregor was off doing whatever it is Conor McGregor is up to these days (and these days it’s starring in a Road House remake and “retiring” again), he decided to take in UFC 278 like the rest of us.

And McGregor being McGregor, he decided to let his thoughts be known with a running commentary on the card and its fighters via social media.

This included his own reaction to Leon Edwards pulling off his unbelievable finish of Kamaru Usman with 57 seconds left in the fight to become the first Jamaican-born UFC champion. It also features tweets from old foe Jose Aldo’s fight with Merab Dvalishvili and Paulo Costa and Luke Rockhold’s crazy war.

A round-up of all Conor McGregor tweets during UFC 278

What an entrance. Performance of a career here I feel. This guy tailor made for Jose to shine. Styles makes fights. Great matchup!

Those Georgians are really under rated tho and largely unknown. But many incredible wrestler grapplers hail from here. Certainly straight wrestlers. This guy Mirab is a great little fighter!

Leaned his way to victory. Refs need to separate stale positions quicker. Especially if happening repeatedly. Earlier each time. It’s fighting guys! Not saying anything on Mirab he done what he had to / won the match. The ref should separate tho to potentially get a real finish.

It is unknown when McGregor will ever return to the Octagon, but four days after posting his recent “retirement,” McGregor posted a tweet with a video compilation that promised the greatest comeback to the cage ever.

McGregor has not been seen in the UFC since losing via first-round injury TKO to Dustin Poirier in the main event of UFC 264 in July 2021. McGregor has lost three of his last four, with his most recent win coming against Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone at UFC 246 in January 2020.

McGregor’s last win at lightweight came when he defeated Eddie Alvarez to become the first UFC champ-champ at UFC 205 in November 2016.

UFC 278: Kamaru Usman vs. Leon Edwards took place on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2022, live from the Vivint Arena, in Salt Lake City, UT. Follow along with FanSided MMA, who was on site, for all your news and highlights.
