ESPN’s Mike Greenberg says that not only should the Los Angeles Lakers trade LeBron James, but the star should want to be moved off of the team.

The NBA world is waiting to see just what solutions the Los Angeles Lakers will come up with this offseason after they finished 11th in the Western Conference. They are in need of a head coach after firing Frank Vogel and are getting help from Phil Jackson in their search.

On the May 4 episode of First Take, ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith shared his belief that the Lakers should strongly consider trading Lebron James.

Well, one week later, Smith’s colleague Mike Greenberg said on Get Up that not only should the Lakers consider moving on from James, but that the star should want to be traded elsewhere.

Mike Greenberg says LeBron James should want to be traded by Lakers

Greenberg’s argument is that James will not have a chance to win another NBA title with the Lakers before his contract is up at the end of the 2022-23 season. But it must be stressed that these are opinions expressed by Smith and Greenberg. It is up to the Lakers or James to make that decision, but we have no inkling that that will actually be the case.

The Lakers tried to go all-in last offseason after being eliminated by the Phoenix Suns in the first round. Their big move was acquiring Russell Westbrook from the Washington Wizards to build a superstar trio around James and Anthony Davis. That never panned out, as Westbrook struggled and Davis dealt with injuries. Overall, the team failed to even make it into the play-in tournament, as they finished behind the San Antonio Spurs for 10th.

First things first, the Lakers need to hire a coach after they moved on from Vogel. With Jackson playing a role in the search, it will remain to be seen who the organization opts to hire. From there, we shall see what the Lakers do next.
