Floyd Mayweather announces his latest exhibition against the grandson of American mob boss John Gotti – who has had just TWO professional fights – on June 11 in Florida as the boxing legend continues his post-retirement world tour

  • Mayweather has competed in a series of exhibitions since retiring from boxing
  • His next bout will come against Gotti, the grandson of notorious gangster John
  • Gotti Snr, who died in 2002, was head of America’s most powerful crime family

Floyd Mayweather has announced he will take on the grandson of notorious mob boss John Gotti in his latest exhibition bout this summer.

Since retiring with a flawless 50-0 record back in 2017, Mayweather has travelled the world competing in a series of lucrative exhibitions against novice opposition, including YouTube sensation Logan Paul, kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa and former reality TV star Aaron Chalmers.

Now the former five-weight world champion has lined up his next contest, which comes against John Gotti III in Florida on June 11.

In an event billed ‘Last Names Matter’, Mayweather will lock horns with Gotti – whose grandfather was the head of a family once described as America’s most powerful crime syndicate.

Gotti Snr, aka ‘The Teflon Don’, orchestrated the murder of Gambino boss Paul Castellano and replaced him as leader of the family in 1985, before he was handed a life sentence for racketeering and murder seven years later.

He died of cancer in 1992 while serving that sentence in federal prison, with his son John A Gotti replacing him as acting boss of the crime syndicate until he too was sent to prison for racketeering. He has since claimed to have left the family.

The 59-year-old has three children, including Mayweather’s upcoming opponent John Gotti III.

Gotti, 30, has been using his family name to pursue a career in combat sports, first venturing into MMA and winning his first five bouts before suffering a unanimous decision defeat against Nick Alley in October 2020.

Since that first loss, the light-heavyweight has switched to boxing and racked up two victories, the most recent of which coming by knockout at the end of January.

After boxing just five rounds as a professional, Gotti is now set to line up against a fighter many regard as the greatest of all time in Mayweather.

The pair will officially unveil their exhibition bout in a press conference on Thursday, just over one month before they battle it out in Florida.

Mayweather has plans to complete further exhibitions against yet-to-be-named opponents in South Korea, Germany, Australia, and Japan after his upcoming clash with Gotti.

The 46-year-old made his UK debut against Chalmers in London earlier this year, albeit in what appeared to be a near-empty O2 Arena.

He has travelled to Japan twice for exhibitions against Nasukawa in 2018 and MMA star Mikuru Asakura last September, while also visiting Abu-Dhabi and Dubai to take on former sparring partner Don Moore and YouTuber Deji.

His meeting with online superstar Paul, who managed to go the distance with the boxing legend, also took place in Florida back in 2021.
