New York Yankees starting pitcher Jameson Taillon left Tuesday night’s game early, and it’s unclear when he’ll return.

The New York Yankees are in a difficult situation with another pitcher out to injury. Jameson Taillon left Tuesday night’s game early with a right forearm contusion after being hit by a line drive. According to the Yankees, x-rays didn’t show any fracture.

However, it’s unclear how long Taillon will be out.

Update: x-ray was negative for fracture.

New York’s rotation is also missing Luis Severino and Nestor Cortes, so they’re running pretty thin on options. It’s next man up in New York.

Yankees need next man up mentality

For their remaining starting pitchers, the Yankees have Gerrit Cole, Frankie Montas and Domingo German. They’ll likely stay in the rotation, but it’s not sustainable to have only three. The only option at this point in the season to fix the issue is to shift the roster around.

If New York were to bring up another pitcher as a starter, the next best option could be Luis Gil. The Yankees’ system is very hitter-heavy, with the best pitcher rated as the team’s eighth-best prospect in Will Warren.

Cole, Montas and German are expected to stay in the rotation regardless. However, if Taillon will have to sit out for a while, it would make the most sense for the Yankees to bring up some reinforcements from the minor leagues, especially with rosters expanding in September.
