In a shocking announcement, Mike Tyson – the former world heavyweight champion boxer – revealed he’d be stepping back in the ring to face YouTuber and fighter Jake Paul.
Tyson, who will be 58 when the fight happens, revealed that his bout against Paul will take place at AT&T Stadium in suburban Dallas and will be aired on Netflix.
Reaction to this announcement was varied – with many questioning the validity of a fight featuring two boxers with a nearly 30 year age gap.
One of the first people to speak out against it was British YouTuber/boxer/content creator KSI.
’50+ years old. No one wanted this… So sad to see man,’ KSI posted to Twitter.
Mike Tyson and Jake Paul are set to fight each other in the ring in an upcoming Netflix special
There will be an age gap of 30 years when the 27-year-old Paul fights then-58-year-old Tyson
YouTuber and boxer KSI tweeted out his disapproval of the event when it was announced
Others on Twitter criticized Paul for going after a boxer that was much older than him
Other reactions on social media criticized Paul for going after boxers and fighters past their prime – with others saying that if Tyson loses then it’ll be a rigged result.
‘Fakest fight of all time,’ wrote one user on Twitter.
‘We know if Jake Paul win[s] vs Tyson boxing is rigged,’ said another.
‘Jake Paul’s a good boxer and Mike’s obviously not in his prime anymore, but if Mike loses or this is a tie then we absolutely know for sure that this is faked, or at least staged.’
Another user wrote, ‘I said it once and I will say it again. Jake Paul claiming to be a boxer while preying on retired combat sports athletes who have sustained a career’s worth of injuries is one of the most utterly pathetic displays of cowardice I have ever seen in my entire life.
‘Mike Tyson is 57 years old. Stop encouraging this clown. You’re a joke @jakepaul. Netflix – you’re a joke for promoting it as well.’
