Brian Kelly gets former Purdue commit Rickie Collins to flip to his LSU football family.

Look at Brian Kelly playing Spoilermaker, as the new LSU football coach was able to convince former Purdue commit Rickie Collins to join his family.

Collins had been committed to Purdue since early October of last year. Less than two months after officially visiting West Lafayette in early June, Collins decommitted on Aug. 1. Nine days later, Collins joined Kelly’s growing LSU football family. The four-star quarterback is a Baton Rouge native and plays high school ball at Woodlawn, so how could he turn down playing for the Tigers?

As it is with anything these days, nothing is official until that Hayes Fawcett graphic hits Twitter.

Kelly is just getting started, as he’s not done winning yet. The good news for LSU fans is Kelly has won everywhere he has been before. From Grand Valley State to Central Michigan to Cincinnati to most notably Notre Dame, all Kelly does is win, win, win, no matter what. Though his Tennessee Williams accent needs some work, Kelly should have no issues recruiting in Louisiana here shortly.

After landing Walker Howard last cycle, Kelly landed the No. 13 quarterback in the country for 2023. According to the 247Sports Composite, Collins is the No. 12 overall prospect from the state of Louisiana and the No. 177 player nationally. Though native son Arch Manning is in this same recruiting cycle, good for Kelly being able to keep this local product at home for this LSU rebuild.

The good news is by halfway through his second season at the helm, Kelly should have LSU on the verge of being something fierce. It took a lot for him to leave Notre Dame, but the opportunity to lead one of the very best programs in the best conference in the sport was too good of an offer to pass up. Once Kelly gets his offense rolling, Alabama and Texas A&M better watch out for LSU.

As long as LSU does a better job of protecting its state’s borders, the Tigers should return to form.
