The Central Bureau of Investigation on Thursday has sought seven-day police custody of former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh’s lawyer Anand Daga and CBI Sub-Inspector Abhishek Tiwari from a Delhi Court.CBI presented Daga and CBI official Tiwari before the Rouse Avenue court on Thursday hours after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh’s lawyer Anand Daga for his alleged role in the ‘manipulation’ of preliminary inquiry in an extortion case against Deshmukh.

HC asks ailing accused in naxal blast case to amend plea and seek bail

The Bombay High Court on Thursday asked an accused in the case related to a blast carried out by naxals in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district in 2019 to amend her petition and seek bail.Nirmala Uppuganti, the petitioner, has moved the court seeking that she be shifted from prison to a hospice as she is suffering from last-stage cancer. The case pertains to the death of 15 security personnel and a civilian in a landmine blast near Jambhulkheda village in Gadchiroli district on May 1, 2019.

Pune: MNS workers stage protest demanding reopening of temples

Leaders and workers of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) resorted to the ringing of bells as part of a “ghanta naad” protest on Thursday to press for their demand for opening temples in the state. The BJP had also staged a similar protest outside Kasba Ganapati Temple here earlier this week, following which the police had registered an offence against party leaders for allegedly violating the COVID-19 norms

Leaked CBI report giving clean chit to Anil Deshmukh is genuine, claims NCP

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Thursday claimed that a leaked CBI report which purportedly gave a clean chit to former Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh in a corruption case was genuine.The central agency has now claimed that the report was leaked after a bribe was paid and it has registered a criminal case in this regard, NCP leader and Maharashtra minority affairs minister Nawab Malik told reporters here. Mumbai: After arrest of Anil Deshmukh’s lawyer, Congress leader Sachin Sawant seeks Maharashtra govt intervention

Senior Congress leader Sachin Sawant on Thursday questioned the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) action after the arrest of former minister Anil Deshmukh’s lawyer and sought the Maharashtra government’s intervention into the matter. The central agency arrested Deshmukh’s advocate Anand Daga for allegedly paying a bribe to a CBI sub-inspector, in an attempt to influence the ongoing corruption investigation against the former state home minister.

Pune: In a daring feat, a 23-year-old man nabbed a burglar who was stealing valuables from his flat at Khadakmal Ali in Ghorpade Peth on Thursday afternoon. The thief is currently out from jail on parole bite Awaiz Salim Ansari and fired two rounds from country-made pistol. However, Ansari did not lose his grip on him and yelled for help. Local residents gathered at the spot and nabbed the thief identified as Vithal Waman Bhole (47), a native of Jalgaon who lived in Hadapsar. Khadak police have seized the weapon and have initiated a process to register the offense.

Over 300 Mumbaikars getting vaccinated per minute against Covid-19: Maharashtra govt

As many as 336 people are getting vaccinated against coronavirus in Mumbai every minute considering the number of doses administered in the last few days, the Maharashtra government claimed on Wednesday.A total of 97 lakh vaccine doses have been administered at civic-run vaccination centres and private hospitals in the city to date, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).At least 71 lakh people have got a first dose, while 26 lakh people are now fully vaccinated, the data revealed.
