Flyweight prospect Maisey Rose Courtney says she’s ‘well suited’ to professional boxing and insists she’s focused on securing a world title fight in the next 12 months despite being new on the scene.
Courtney will be looking to extend her professional record to 3-0 when she takes on Kate Radomska in her third professional fight on the undercard of Katie Taylor vs Chantelle Cameron fight this evening.
The 22-year-old, who enjoyed back-to-back victories against Judit Hachbold and Buchra El Quaissi, is no stranger to fighting on the big stage after making her pro debut on the Taylor vs Karen Elizabeth Carabajal undercard last October.
Courtney says she loves fighting on high profile cards and believes she is well suited to the professional game. Speaking exclusively to Mail Sport, Courtney said: ‘I love it. I absolutely love it. Even in my amateur career I had more of a pro-style.
‘I was a little bit cocky. But the transition was hard, it’s always hard given it’s a different sport really. But I love it and I’m suited to the pros. I love fighting people and I love having no head guards on. I love when you hit them and it hurts them a little bit. I love stuff like that.’

However, Courtney is looking to produce a more ‘composed performance’ this evening after claiming she went ‘out all guns blazing’ in her first two professional fights.
She told Mail Sport: ‘My last two fights I have gone out all guns blazing. I’ve been like a little bulldozer. Come out swinging and whatever. This time I’ve got another two rounds. I can slow down a little bit more and be a bit more composed.
‘I can show people my boxing ability. It comes out anyway but this time I’m going to be able to show it in a way I want to show it. I’m my biggest self critic anyway. I beat myself up massively. But, I’m trying not to do that too much this time. I’m trying to be nice to myself. I feel good.’
When asked whether she felt she had the engine for the two extra rounds, Courtney said: ‘Yeah of course. I say this all the time that when we’re in the gym we train for 12 rounds. You know, I’m not training for the fight that is in front of me.
‘I’m training for that world title fight that is happening in 12 months time. I’m fit, I’m ready to go. I did six on the triangle the other day, 10 stairs and 12 rounds of sparring. I’ll go in there easily tomorrow.’
Courtney has been training alongside Skye Nicolson in preparation for her fight with Radomska and said the 27-year-old boxer has ‘helped’ her out ‘loads’.
Courtney went on to say that Nicolson, who earned a points victory over Linda Laura Lecca in Cardiff to take her record to 7-0, will become a world champion one day.
When asked how beneficial its been to have Nicolson in camp with her, Courtney said: ‘It’s amazing. She’s like my boxing best mate. She’s my best mate and that’s it. Yeah, she’s helped me out loads.
‘She’s an unreal fighter herself. She’s an Olympian, she’s a commonwealth gold medalist and she had bundles more experience than I had in the amateur game. To be able to say I have something like that, helping me out and around me is amazing.
‘She’s my good mate and I can lean on her and she can lean on me. I am really lucky to have her in my life and in my camp. She’s definitely going to be a world champion. She’s unreal.’
