Manchester United kick off their Premier League campaign on Sunday with a fixture against Brighton as the Red Devils look to start hot.
It’s a big day for Erik ten Hag as the new Manchester United manager will be on the sidelines for his first Premier League fixture at Old Trafford on Sunday, Aug. 7 for Matchday 1 as they welcome Brighton & Hove Albion.
Ten Hag has experienced a bit of a tumultuous first offseason with the club as the transfer window provided a plethora of drama for Cristiano Ronaldo and Frenkie de Jong. The former’s case is less than settled but Manchester United still are set to take the pitch with high hopes for what their club can accomplish in league play this season.
Brighton will provide a tricky test, though. They finished in the top half of the table last season and, despite some key transfers within the Premier League, still believe they can compete at that level again. Getting points at Old Trafford on Matchday 1 would be a great way to set the tone.

With the Cristiano Ronaldo saga hanging over the offseason, we don’t know what his availability will be on Sunday after only logging 45 preseason minutes. However, his spot in the lineup won’t be taken by Anthony Martial, who will be out. There is also some questions about whether Brandon Williams, Luke Shaw and Facundo Pellistri, among others, will be available.
The positive news is that it seems as if Lisandro Martinez and Christian Eriksen will be able to go in front of the Old Trafford faithful.
Brighton team news
The good news for the Seagulls is that Alexis Mac Allister appears ready to go after nursing an injury earlier this offseason. There are more bodies up front but Danny Welbeck and Neal Maupay present veteran presences that are likely to see the start in the attacking front for the side. Jakub Moder remains out, unfortunately, after his knee injury last campaign.
