Mets throw combined no-hitter: Best memes and tweets

For the first time in team history, the New York Mets have a combined no-hitter as their pitching staff shut down the Philadelphia Phillies.

The New York Mets are off to a really solid start this season and they’re able to add another impressive win to their already pretty strong resume. The Mets managed to get a 3-0 win over the Philadelphia Phillies.

While shutout wins are always solid, this one was particularly great for the Mets as they ended up throwing a combined no-hitter against the Phillies.

For the first time in franchise history, the Mets had a combined no-hitter.

The Mets turned to five different pitchers to make this possible and each of them happened to do their jobs.

Tylor Megill started off on the mound and was eventually replaced by Drew Smith. Smith was then in turn replaced by Joely Rodríguez, who turned the game over to Seth Lugo. Lugo then handed things over to Edwin Díaz.

And they all managed to keep the Phillies from getting a hit. Understandably, Mets fans are thrilled.

New York Mets no-hitters

The Mets don’t have many no-hitters throughout their history. While no-hitters are inherently a pretty rare occurrence for anyone to actually pull off, the last no-hitter for the Mets came a little over a decade ago when Johan Santana threw one in 2012.

Johan Santana no-hitter

On Friday June 1, 2012, Santana was able to make magic happen for the Mets as he faced off against the St. Louis Cardinals. The 33-year-old Santana managed to throw nine innings against the Cardinals, striking out eight of the 32 batters he faced. He did walk five batters, but that didn’t matter as he didn’t give up a single hit and the Mets went on to win 8-0.
