The NFL Draft betting market is heating up as we are inside of 10 days to the first round next Thursday.
With the news that Bryce Young has cancelled workouts with teams and is likely to be selected No. 1 by the Carolina Panthers, focus has turned to the Houston Texans, who have the No. 2 pick and were known to covet Young.
It appears that the team’s plans are beginning to come into light as the betting market installed Alabama’s Will Anderson as the favorite on early Tuesday evening, followed by Texas Tech pass rusher Tyree Wilson. However, late Tuesday, Will Levis surged to the top of the odds board at Caesars Sportsbook.
It’s worth noting that Ohio State’s CJ Stroud, who was the favorite to be the No. 1 overall pick less than two weeks ago, is now the fourth choice to go No. 2.
Here’s the updated odds for the second overall pick that is crowded around pass rushers and a late rising quarterback.
2023 NFL Draft No. 2 pick odds
Will Texans go defense or quarterback or trade?
The draft is apparently starting at No. 2 with the Panthers set to take Young, who is -1500 to go No. 1 overall.
However, Lance Zierlien, who is a well connected Houston NFL media Draft analyst, has mentioned that the Texans are now looking to get out of the pick and trade back after seemingly being unable to select the Alabama quarterback.
So, the Texans may not fancy any prospect enough to select them at No. 2, but if they do, maybe they keep long term options open at QB and select a defensive prospect, which is why Anderson or Wilson has climbed to the top of the board.
However, there’s more to this though. It’s been speculated in the Houston media that the Texans may have Levis over Stroud on its draft board. Stroud has been slipping, per the media, and whether Houston ends up selecting a QB at No. 2 or is successfully able to trade out for a quarterback needy team, it may be for the Kentucky prospect, not the Ohio State one.
It does appear that Houston is open for business, so we may need to open up our imagination when it comes to the No. 2 overall pick market, but one thing is for sure: Will Levis is in the mix, more so than Stroud, nine days out from Draft night.
