Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers will be traded to the New York Jets, or he’ll retire. Those look like the two options on the table. So, what’s the holdup?
The always-indecisive Aaron Rodgers is at it again. With a major career decision on the horizon, Rodgers darkness retreat wasn’t enough to give him the clarity necessary to make such an important call.
Does he try a New York Jets jersey on for size, or does he retire as a career Green Bay Packer?
The Jets and Packers reportedly have a trade package pretty much worked out. The compensation and salary gymnastics are agreed to. New York has spoken with Rodgers himself, which included the Jets front front office. Woody Johnson paid for the plane ride.
Both sides are waiting on Rodgers to decide whether or not he wants to keep playing. And if he does, in what capacity?
NFL rumors: Aaron Rodgers trade holdup is…Aaron Rodgers
Packers president Mark Murphy made it clear on Friday night that Aaron Rodgers career in Green Bay is likely behind him. Murphy went as far as to say that the Packers best-case scenario was trading the future Hall of Famer.
“I mean unless, if things don’t work out the way we would want them, yeah (we will trade him),” Murphy said. “He’s obviously a great player and four-time MVP, but I think it’s trying to find what he wants and what we want, and hopefully we can find a win-win situation.”
Murphy also admitted that he gave the Jets permission to speak with Rodgers, but he “couldn’t get into the details.”
Green Bay restructured the contract of several veteran players, hinting that the likes of David Bakhtiari could also be in such a blockbuster.
The Packers would prefer Rodgers make up his mind prior to the start of free agency next week.
