NFL rumors: Packers should sign this wideout instead of Allen Lazard

The Packers are reportedly looking to re-sign Allen Lazard but they can find better value on the free agent market and in the NFL Draft.

All signs point to the Packers moving forward without Aaron Rodgers, who just emerged from his bizarre darkness retreat and is expected to address his future soon.

The plan? Put all eggs in the Jordan Love basket and see how it goes.

One move Green Bay is hoping to make Love’s life a bit easier involves wide receiver Allen Lazard. According to Matt Lombardo, the Packers “are making an effort to keep” the free agent.

The problem? Lazard is going to be looking for a significant pay raise on the open market. He is expecting to command more than $10 million per year.

It may be hard for the Packers to justify shelling out money like that for a receiver whose career high is 788 receiving yards while serving as Rodgers’ primary target in 2022.

Instead of investing in Lazard, Green Bay should take a different path: Give a proven veteran free agent a short-term deal while mining the draft for the next star at wide receiver.

The Packers should sign Robert Woods instead of Allen Lazard

Robert Woods is coming off a down year with the Titans, who just cut him to save cap space. He had 527 yards on 53 catches but it’s clear the fit in Tennessee was the real issue.

He was a star for the rams, posting multiple 1,000-yard seasons while proving to be a dependable pass catcher and stout blocker in the run game.

Given his age at 30 years old and his disappointing time in Tennessee, Woods should be available at a value.

Going short-term with a deal for Woods could pay off in the long run, especially if the team finally decided to use a first-round draft pick on a stud receiver.
