The North Carolina Tar Heels have struggled mightily this season after entering the 2022-23 campaign as the No. 1 team in the country.
UNC is just 16-12 on the season and 8-8 in ACC play heading into Wednesday’s matchup with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
This has been a rough season for Notre Dame, who is just 2-14 in ACC play, and the team has lost five straight games heading into this showdown.
The Irish have been particularly bad on the road, going 0-8 in true road games this season, including a 17-point loss to these Tar Heels. Do things change at home on Wednesday?
Here are the latest odds and a pick for this ACC matchup:

North Carolina vs. Notre Dame prediction and pick
The Tar Heels handled business against Notre Dame the first time these two teams met, but neither squad has been a great team to bet on this season.
UNC is a dreadful 8-19 against the spread and the Irish are somehow worse, going 7-19-1. The one spot where the Irish have been successful? As underdogs of 6.5 or more points, going 3-1 ATS this season.
Ironically, that’s the line in this game on Wednesday.
UNC certainly is a more talented group, but Hubert Davis’ squad has failed to put things together on the defensive end, ranking 260th in the country in opponent points per game. If anything is going to help the Fighting Irish pull off the upset, it will be attacking this weak UNC defense from beyond the arc.
Notre Dame is 68th in the country in 3-point percentage, and it’s actually been able to hang around in games as of late, losing to No. 6 Virginia by two, Duke by four, Virginia Tech by six and Georgia Tech by two in its last four games.
Given how bad the Tar Heels have been against the spread, and on the road (2-7 straight up this season), I’ll take the points with Notre Dame on Wednesday.
