Sean McVay sure seemed shocked by the New England Patriots going out of their way to pick up Cole Strange in the first round of the NFL Draft.

The New England Patriots made some memes pop up on Twitter and Sean McVay cackle after they made a rather unexpected selection in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. The Los Angeles Rams head coach, and many folks online, were shocked to see the Patriots pick Cole Strange in the first round.

While Strange seems like a solid option for any franchise to add to their offensive line, picking him in the first round may be a bit much. Still, that’s what the Patriots did. And that means that McVay won’t have a chance to pick Strange up once the Rams actually get a chance to select someone.

The whole deal led to McVay laughing during a Rams NFL Draft live stream.

He seems absolutely stunned at first and then can’t help but laugh off the fact that the Rams won’t have a shot at drafting Strange. And McVay wasn’t the only one laughing or weighing in on the matter.

New England’s decision to pick up Strange in the first round is, well, a little strange and Twitter had some thoughts.

2022 NFL Draft: Seam McVay cracks up after New England Patriots pick Cole Strange in first round

New England’s decision to select Strange this early is something that will cause folks to scratch their heads for a while. He’s a good player, but he almost certainly would have been available in later rounds, right?

Cole Strange in the first round is not something I envisioned tonight. Third round? Tomorrow? Of course. Not Thursday.

I’ll be clear…I really really like Cole Strange.

It’s also strange to take him at THIS slot given the Pats have 54, 85, and 94.

Laugh at my strange usage.

You, smooth brain, never heard of books: Haha, the Rams said they wanted Cole Strange at 104!

Me, brain wrinkled like a shar pei, rebuilt the Library at Alexandria: The Rams said they wanted Cole Strange

Well, maybe.

Regardless of that, considering where Cole played college football, it’s no shocker that the UT Chattanooga memes would be brought up. It makes a ton of sense and these memes had to come up with all of this happening.

The best part of Dan Mullen’s iconic Chattanooga cigar comment is that it wasn’t even correct.

It was Middle Tennessee that had offered Nick Fitzgerald. https://t.co/ZuAdAQr2Hw

At the end of the day though, it does seem like Strange has some intriguing potential and can possibly make an impact with the Patriots. Few franchises are as good at or better than the Patriots when it comes to going out and finding interesting players in the NFL Draft.

Big fan of Cole Strange. Mean, nasty, physical, quick & versatile. Moved to center mid game having never repped it.

29 might be a bit of a stretch but he can play. @Patriots getting a good one

It’ll be fascinating to see how this pick pans out for the Patriots.
