The 2022 Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala (A.K.A. the Met Gala) is set to kick off on Monday, May 2. So to celebrate, we’re taking a look back at some of the best fashion moment in the event’s history. And oh man, are there some good ones.
With this year’s theme being “In America: An Anthology of Fashion,” we’re expecting to see lots of fun and creative looks. Hosted by Regina King, Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds and Lin-Manuel Miranda, it’s sure to be a Met Gala for the books. The co-chairs will be joined by Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, designer Tom Ford and Adam Mosseri.
One epic year was 2018’s “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and The Catholic Imagination” theme, which showcased some of the biggest, most memorable moments in the gala’s history. How could we forget Rihanna‘s pope-inspired showstopper? Or Priyanka Chopra‘s caped Ralph Lauren gown?
Those haven’t been the only buzzy fashion choices over the years. There was Cher‘s 1985 sparkly sheer gown, Beyonce‘s 2012 Givenchy feathered train and Sarah Jessica Parker‘s custom H&M number in 2015.
How the celebs in attendance will interpret camp? We’ll just have to wait to see! But in the meantime, we invite you to take a trip down memory lane of Met Galas past. From Taylor Swift’s iconic 2016 punk makeover to Lupita Nyong’o’s stunning flapper dress in 2014, there have been oodles of chic and seriously outrageous moments to inspire us.
