Shakur Stevenson CALLS OUT Devin Haney after the American controversially defeated Vasyl Lomachenko… as he claims the undisputed lightweight champion is ‘not on his level’

  • Devin Haney benefitted from a controversial decision against Vasyl Lomachenko
  • He successfully defended his undisputed lightweight crown via a split decision
  • Haney has several options for his next fight, including Shakur Stevenson

Former featherweight and super-featherweight world champion Shakur Stevenson has set up the prospect of a tantalising fight with Devin Haney after the undisputed lightweight champion retained his world titles.

Haney edged out former unified lightweight champion and double Olympic King Vasyl Lomachenko in Las Vegas by virtue of a unanimous decision victory.

This was the second time Haney had defended all four of his titles at 135lbs after beating George Kambosos Jr for a second time in October 2022 when he had previously taken the belts off him.

It also extended his unbeaten record to 30-0 (15 KOs), although the victory was controversial given many felt the Ukrainian had done enough to win.

And after the clash, Stevenson – who is also undefeated with a record of 20-0 (10 KOs) and was ringside for the bout – felt Lomachenko had been unfairly denied victory, while he also called out Haney and talked up a potential showdown with his fellow undefeated American.

‘Lomachenko should be undisputed champion here, he won,’ Stevenson – who first floated the idea of taking on Haney back in April 2022 after he beat Oscar Valdez – said.

‘He won that fight. He landed the cleaner punches. He landed the cleaner shots on Dev, and he pushed the pace.’

‘Let’s make it (a fight with Haney) happen. I think it should happen next. I think Devon is not on my level and Imma show it.

‘I feel like Devon is a tough fighter, but there is a high skill level inside me and he’s not on my level.

‘Bill [Haney] called me out after my last fight. Now I’m here and they ran out the ring,

‘They seen me just now and they ran out the ring. They got a little scared. I can’t wait [to face him].’

The tension between the pair was only ramped up after the fight when Haney barked at his rival: ‘I’m number one,’ before Stevenson smiled and replied: ‘For now.’

It remains to be seen what happens next, but arguably a clash between the two rivals has never been closer.
