Disgraced NFL receiver Antonio Brown has left a trail of embittered and peeved teams in his wake. Add one more to his hit list.
Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers Antonio Brown is up to his usual shenanigans again. No, it’s not getting sued for a million dollars, and no, it’s not signing himself to NFL teams.
Instead of pulling off his shirt, he’s pulling on fingers, and nobody’s laughing.
Brown acquired 95 percent ownership of Albany Empire, an indoor football team, last month, and the organization is currently going through a rough patch, to say the least.
According to the Albany Times Union, the players haven’t been paid since April 21, the head coach recently quit, and the team is facing a misdemeanor charge of aggravated harassment.
Basically, it’s chaos. None of the issues seem to implicate Brown directly, but one can’t deny that Antonio Brown and chaos go hand in hand. And it’s not like Brown can help the organization’s financial situation, what with his current lawsuit.
In regards to the pay dispute, the team is supposed to get paid the Friday following a game. Per the Times Union, “no one received direct deposits on April 28 ahead of Sunday’s game, and the team played the Carolina Cobras in Greensboro, N.C., without pay.”
Antonio Brown’s indoor football team, Albany Empire, is going up in flames
Albany Empire’s acting president, Alberony Denis, claimed the issues were due to a mix-up with the payroll processor. When former team owner Mike Kwarta sold his ownership stake to Brown, the processor may have put a hold on future payments.
As for the misdemeanor charge, the Albany police department responded to a report of aggravated harassment stemming from an incident on the players’ team bus this past weekend. The investigation is still ongoing.
To top it all off, the team appears to be in desperate need of reinforcements. Albany Empire recently posted a recruitment message on social media and is looking for a wide receiver, defensive back, lineman, and backup quarterback, not to mention a new head coach.
Back in March, Brown joined the team as co-owner with his father, Eddie Brown, who previously played for the Empire, serving as vice president of operations.
