  •  Some fans think she is bad for the sport
  •  Bridges says she is ‘gutted’ by the result

Australian boxer Ebanie Bridges has been attacked online after losing her IBF bantamweight world title in a shocking upset to Miyo Yoshida in San Francisco on Sunday.

Bridges, 37, was dominated by Yoshida, with many writing the Japanese underdog off after she stepped in on short notice to replace Avril Mathie.

Yoshida made the most of the world title opportunity, landing 122 power punches to Bridges’ meagre 66, transforming the Aussie’s second title defence into a nightmare.

The Blonde Bomber was soundly beaten, with two judges giving the Aussie just one round of the 10-round title contest with the judges scoring the fight 99-91 x 2 and 97-93.

‘This was supposed to be an exhibition fight for Ebanie Bridges in the United States,’ DAZN’s expert on commentary said.

‘This has been a disaster for her.’

Bridges received plenty of support after the result was revealed, but also plenty of scorn from boxing fans who don’t like her glamorous appearance and eye-catching publicity stunts.

The former Sydney maths teacher is arguably best known for her skimpy weigh-in outfits and OnlyFans account – and some boxing fans believes it makes a mockery of the sport.

One Aussie X user wrote: ‘Well @EbanieBridges you got exactly what you deserved, your arse handed to you by a superior boxer who takes the fight seriously instead of promoting smut on the net and booze for an Irish w****r, do us all a favour and bugger off.’

Another user posted: ‘It is better Ebanie Bridges to focus on or promoting @OnlyFans or @ForgedIrish than boxing. It is time to get nudity out of boxing. This is not a Misfit show. I hope there is no rematch in the UK.’

A third wrote: ‘You got schooled. Go to gym and train seriously or retire and go on do all the OF porn.’

A fourth user wrote: ‘Tell her to focus less on being a prostitute and more on fighting she may have a better chance next time.’

Bridges says she was ‘gutted’ by the devastating result and will now return to her UK base without her IBF belt.

And after losing only her second professional bout, Bridges took to X to send an emotional message to Yoshida and her fans.

‘Absolutely gutted, it wasn’t my night. Big congrats to my opponent, she was the better fighter tonight,’ Bridges wrote.

‘Beautiful & humble, single mother. Seeing how much that win meant to her & her daughter did give me some warmth inside.

‘A loss doesn’t define me. I have no quit, it’s all learning and I’ll be back better & stronger. Thank you to everyone who supports me. I love you all.’

Bridges will have to go back to the drawing board with coach Dave Coldwell after plenty of her weaknesses were exposed by Yoshida.

The shock defeat now ends the Aussie’s 21-month reign at the top of the IBF bantamweight division.
