Alabama transfer Eli Ricks was arrested over the weekend for speeding, possession of marijuana and driving without insurance.
Eli Ricks transferring from LSU to Alabama football this year has the potential to be one of the biggest personnel moves in college football.
But he’s got to be available to play if he’s to help get the Crimson Tide back to championship form.
His tenure with Alabama didn’t get off to a great start with news of an arrest this weekend, one that’s sure to land him a talking to from head coach Nick Saban.
Alabama transfer Eli Ricks arrested for speeding, possession of marijuana
Ricks was charged with speeding, driving without insurance and possession of marijuana on Sunday.
In the grand scheme of things, the charges are not serious. Ricks’ bond was set at $0 and he’s not likely to face long-term consequences.
His biggest problem right now is facing Saban and whatever punishment he decides to hand down. Whether it’s a suspension or an internal penalty, Ricks will need to prove to the head coach and his teammates that he can act more responsibly while representing the Crimson Tide.
Ricks was a five-star prospect in the class of 2020. He signed with LSU out of high school and earned Freshman All-American honors after an impressive first season in college. His sophomore season was more muted and ended prematurely because of a shoulder injury. He entered the transfer portal shortly after his season was ended.
As one of the top transfers available in the portal, Ricks was courted by many but he opted to join the Crimson Tide. He participated in Spring Camp and is expected to contribute in 2022 whether as a starter or key backup.
