Australian boxing champion Tim Tszyu has revealed the full extent of his injury after a vicious dog attack on Saturday night, but insists he will be ready to fight Carlos Ocampo in three weeks.
The 28-year-old was rushed to hospital over the weekend and required emergency surgery after his right arm was bitten by a mate’s Staffordshire bull terrier while he was attending a BBQ.
It is understood the dog latched onto Tszyu’s arm for some time before letting go, revealing a wound that required 26 stitches to close.
He must now take a course of antibiotics to prevent infection to the wound, but was reportedly already back in the gym on Wednesday.
Tszyu is set to defend his interim WBO super-welterweight title against Mexican Carlos Ocampo on June 18, so there were doubts he would be able to compete.

The Sydney boxer took to social media on Wednesday to assure fight fans that the bout will be going ahead.
‘Quick little update, I’m good,’ Tszyu said to his Instagram followers.
‘Actually I’m real good. Nothing is wrong. I had a little bit of an incident on the weekend but I’m good to go.
‘Thank you everyone for the messages, I truly appreciate it. But, man, we’re good to go June 18. The show goes on. Nothing changes.
‘The road to undisputed continues. Never, ever did I say I was going to pull out or postpone. Ain’t gunna happen. Never was. Never will.
‘I’m ready. June 18, let’s get it on. See you all there.’
Tszyu’s manager Glen Jennings is also confident the bout will go ahead as planned.
‘The wound was superficial. The post surgical report is all good,’ he said.
‘There is no doubt that Tim will be ready and 100 per cent healthy and focused to take on Carlos Ocampo on June 18.’

Ocampo is a formidable opponent, with a record of 34 wins and just two losses to world-class fighters – including undisputed American star Errol Spence jnr.
No Limit Boxing CEO George Rose said he was worried when he heard about the dog bite – but is now satisfied that Tszyu is OK and the blockbuster will go on as scheduled.
‘It’s certainly not the ideal preparation anytime a fighter ends up in hospital a few weeks out from world title fight but the best news right now is that Tim is doing ok,’ Rose said in a statement.
‘He has the best and most experienced team around him in world boxing. They have reassured me he’ll be more than ready on June 18 to take on Ocampo.
‘If they’re confident, I’m confident.’
