Time to buy in: David Ortiz has bold prediction for 2022 Red Sox team

If David Ortiz thinks the 2022 Boston Red Sox redemption arc is real, then you know it’s time to buy in. Big Papi is on board.

Ortiz is forever a member of Sox Nation. A fan favorite and Baseball Hall of Famer for a reason, Ortiz is an active member of MLB media and not shy about his Boston homer status.

Just a few days ago, he spoke on how the Red Sox need to make it a priority to extend Xander Bogaerts before it’s too late. On Tuesday, Ortiz revealed more intrigue — he thinks this Boston team, despite its putrid start, will make the playoffs.

“I think the Red Sox are in a good environment right now, sweeping the Mariners this past homestand,” Ortiz said. “I think that was good for us. I can tell you right now, we’re going to be in the playoffs. I can tell you right now, I’ve got that feeling.”

Well, I’m not one to doubt Big Papi himself.

David Ortiz: Red Sox will make the playoffs

The Red Sox have won five straight games and are 8-2 in their last 10 games. Trevor Story has suddenly turned things around, and hit five home runs against the Mariners in a four-game sweep at Fenway Park.

“My man getting hot, Trevor, I think that’s a good sign,” Ortiz added. “Baseball is all about environment and chemistry. If you’ve got good chemistry and a good environment going on, everybody’s like walking in the same direction. I think it’s at that point right now.”

Boston started out the season 10-19, and at the bottom of the AL East. The Sox were behind even the lowly Baltimore Orioles in the division, and sat 10-plus games behind the New York Yankees. While winning the AL East still feels like a bit of a pipe dream, the now 19-22 Red Sox are taking matters one game at a time.

Crazier things have happened on the diamond.
