Just because the Super Bowl is today, doesn’t mean we can’t bet on other sports too. For example, we have a whole slate of college basketball games to bet on this afternoon.
If you’re looking for CBB bets for today, you’ve come to the right place.
Let’s dive into my top three college hoops bets for Super Bowl Sunday.
Top College Basketball bets today
- Niagara +8 (-105) vs. Iona
- Minnesota +11.5 (-105) vs. Iowa
- Purdue -5 (-105) vs. Northwestern
Niagara +8 (-105) vs. Iona
We can’t only bet on power conference games! How about a little MAAC action between Niagara and Iona?
The Gaels enter the game in second place in the conference, with Niagara two games behind. I think there’s some value betting on the home underdog in this spot. First things first, we need to look at the stylistic matchup between these two teams.
68.7% of Iona’s shots come from two-point range, which ranks 48th in the country. Now, they face a Niagara team with a strong interior defense, allowing teams to shoot only 47.2% from down low.
It’s also worth worth noting that the Purple Eagles are a much better shooting team on their home court. Their effective field goal percentage goes up 7.7% at home compared to when playing on the road.
I’ll take the eight points with Niagara.
Minnesota +11.5 (-105) vs. Iowa
I’ve fallen for the trap of betting on Minnesota a couple of times already this season, only for them to get blown out. I’m prepared to fall for that trap one more time.
Iowa’s shooting has been abysmal on the road this season, with their eFG% dropping 10.5% (!!) when playing away from their home court.
It’s also important to know that Iowa doesn’t have a defensive advantage over Minnesota. In fact, the Hawkeyes rank 225th in defensive efficiency and the Golden Gophers rank right behind them at 226th.
I’ll back the underdog in this spot.
Purdue -5 (-105) vs. Northwestern
I generally think Purdue is overvalued as a No. 1 seed, but I don’t believe that to be the case today. Northwestern is a three-point shooting team, with 41.3% of their shots coming from beyond the arc. That’s going to play right into Purdue’s strength, as the Boilermakers rank 28th in 3-point defense, keeping teams to shooting only 30.5% from 3-point range.
Purdue is also a far superior shooting team, ranking 49th in effective field goal percentage while Northwestern ranks 305th.
Give me the Boilermakers to win and cover in Big Ten action.
