While Houston is still seen as the best team in the country by many, the team has had some bumpy outings of late, needing second half rallies to beat Cincinnati and Wichita State in two of their three outings.

Now, the Cougars play host to lowly Tulsa, who is 5-17 on the year and 1-10 in AAC play. These two met already this season and 22-2 Houston won 89-50 back on December 28th. Can Houston find their dominant form and show their ceiling against an outmatched opponent?

Tulsa vs. Houston prediction and pick

This is a question of how many points can Tulsa put on the board as Houston should have little issue getting into the high 80’s despite their methodical tempo. The team is top 10 in offensive rebounding rate and and Tulsa is bottom 10 in the country in two-point defense. The Cougars won’t see much resistance at all on Wednesday.

On the other side of the ball, Tulsa is a porous offensive rebounding unit and also is shooting an AAC-worst 64% from the free throw line. The team is likely going to face heavy ball pressure form the Cougars, the best turnover forcing unit in the conference.

However, given Houston’s propensity for playing a methodical offense, the team has the longest average offensive possession length in AAC games, this game is going to stay under the total. Even if the Cougars are scoring at will, the defense is too good to allow anything into the mid 50’s.

Even if this game is shaping up for a blowout win, I can’t trust the total to get into the 140’s given the limited amount of possessions.
