Cinderella has made her mark on the 2023 NCAA Tournament with some dramatic upsets. Here’s a look at the updated March Madness bracket after Round 1.
That sound you just heard is the sound of brackets across the country getting shredded after a wild first two days in the NCAA Tournament.
Cinderella has taken center stage as a slew of mammoth upsets blew up the bracket with Furman, Princeton, and No. 16 seed Fairleigh Dickinson taking down traditional powerhouses that many people had going far in the dance.
The fact we had such monumental upsets in the Round of 64 is very emblematic of this particular season, where we had a revolving door atop the polls and the preseason No. 1 (North Carolina) failed to make the NCAA Tournament. The madness is just starting, however, as the Round of 32 tips off in less than 12 hours.
Updated March Madness bracket after the First Round
The action continues on Saturday with eight more games in the Round of 32, beginning with Furman looking to extend their Cinderella run by taking down 5-seed San Diego State in Orlando. Other noteworthy games on Saturday include Duke taking on Tennessee, Houston trying to survive an upset bid from Auburn, and top-overall seed Alabama looking to advance against a rugged Maryland team.
The headline of Sunday will be seeing whether Fairleigh Dickinson can become the first 16-seed ever to reach the Sweet 16 as they take on Florida Atlantic. There are also plenty of big-name programs taking the floor, including Michigan State against Marquette, UCONN looking to take down Saint Mary’s, and Kentucky aiming to upset Kansas State.
After what we witnessed in the first 48 hours of March Madness, no one should be surprised if there’s even more chaos over the next 48.
