Penn State quarterback Sean Clifford ran for a first down, but he was sent into the shadow realm by the Auburn defense.
Last year, the Penn State Nittany Lions defeated the Auburn Tigers 28-20 at State College in their first meeting since 2003. One year later, the Lions went down to Auburn to take on the Tigers.
There are monstrous hits, and then there is what Auburn linebacker Owen Pappoe gave Penn State quarterback Sean Clifford. As Clifford ran for the first down, he was met with a huge shoulder block tackle by Pappoe, and lost the football. Luckily for Clifford, Penn State was able to recover the fumble. But did he ever get hit.
Penn State: Sean Clifford gets destroyed on massive hit
Clifford did not miss any time. In fact, he led the team to a touchdown on their very next drive. A 75-yard, nine play drive ended with Clifford running into the end zone for a seven-yard touchdown, giving the Nittany Lions the 7-3 lead.
After a 22-yard field goal by Anders Carlson to cut Penn State’s lead to 7-6. But the Nittany Lions responded prior to the end of the first half, as Kaytron Allen scored on a three-yard rushing touchdown to extend their lead to 14-6.
Clifford was just fine after the hit, but this will be on the “biggest hits of the 2022 season” highlight reel.
