Things got physical in the Wednesday finale of the Mets vs. Cardinals series and St. Louis reliever Giovanny Gallegos wanted in on it.
With Mets reliever Yoan Lopez on the mound, Cardinals slugger Nolan Arenado came to bat in the eighth inning. Things got interesting from there.
Lopez threw high and inside, appearing to buzz Nolan Arenado’s head. Arenado chirped at Lopez to bring it on. He then shoved Tomas Nido out of the way to charge the mound and the benches cleared.
There was a lot of pushing and shoving. St. Louis first base coach Stubby Clapp even tackled Mets first baseman Pete Alonso to keep him from coming after more players. Tempers on both sides were clearly flared up after a heated series with multiple players getting hit by pitches.
But perhaps the funniest moment of the incident came from video footage from the Cardinals bullpen.
Cardinals reliever Giovanny Gallegos hops bullpen fence to join brawl with Mets
It’s amazing! Cardinals reliever Giovanny Gallegos clears the bullpen fence, much like an Olympic hurdler, to sprint through the outfield to join the brawl.
It’s unclear if Gallegos got in on the action, but Twitter definitely enjoyed the move by the pitcher.
Giovanny Gallegos scaling the bullpen wall the help his team in the brawl, may be one of my favorite baseball moments in the last few years… love it! #STLCards

Arenado and Clapp were the lone ejections from the game. It will be interesting to see the league’s response to the brawl. Things should be even more interesting in May when the Cardinals head to Citi Field for a three-game series in New York.
