Charles Oliveira looks to successfully defend his UFC lightweight title when he takes on Justin Gaethje in the main event of UFC 274 to kick-off the month of May. Oliveira most recently submitted Dustin Poirier in a back-and-forth war that saw Oliveira overcome adversity to retain the belt for the first time.
As for Gaethje, he’ll look to make due on a second crack at championship gold in front of his home fans in his home state of Arizona. Gaethje earned another shot at the title after defeating fellow UFC 274 competitor, Michael Chandler, in a “Fight of the Year” contender at Madison Square Garden.
Nearly two years removed from his first title shot opportunity and under completely new circumstances altogether, Gaethje has a newfound outlook on the fight and a chance to rewrite a wrong.
Also on the card is a rematch eight years in the making between Rose Namajunas and Carla Esparza in the co-main event, which will be contested for the strawweight title. And in a featured bout, top-10 lightweights in Tony Ferguson and Michael Chandler collide to see who is still in the mix as part of MMA’s most competitive division.
