Four-time world boxing champ Danny Green has given a preview of what he’s expecting when a group of former AFL players square off at Stan Event’s boxing pay-per-view The Gathering.
AFL legends Kane Cornes, Nathan Brown, Dane Swan, Dale Thomas, Anthony Rocca, Corey McKernan, Mitch Robinson and Kayne Pettifer will step through the ropes on Wednesday night – and Green can’t wait.
‘I think Pettifer and Mitch [Robinson] will be a contest that’s the most exciting in terms of boxing skill,’ explained Green.

Green (pictured right) says the footy boxing event has a lot of very interesting fights
‘Petts has been boxing for a long time. Mitch has been boxing for a little while and he loves it, and will continue if he’s victorious.’
The Aussie boxing icon is also expecting fireworks from heavyweights Anthony Rocca and Corey McKernan.
‘Corey has come over to Perth and trained with a good friend of mine,’ revealed Green.
‘Corey is a consummate professional and he’s preparing for this like he did with his career – and he was so successful. That’s why it’ll be interesting.
‘Anthony doesn’t want to lose, either. He’s a professional. It’s very interesting. They’ve got a lot of respect for each other, but they want to win.’
Controversy king Kane Cornes will be throwing down with Richmond legend Nathan Brown on Wednesday night and Green is equally intrigued by that match-up.
Green described Kane Cornes (pictured left) as the most driven ex-player competing and is curious to see how the former star transitions to boxing against Nathan Brown (right)

The Aussie boxing icon says the fight between Dane Swan (left) and Dale Thomas (right) is a mystery to him
‘Kane Cornes is probably the most driven person competing,’ Green said.
‘You can tell by the way he lives his life – he’s just a very driven human being. And Browny is a competitive pig as well!’
AFL bad boy Dane Swan is clashing with Dale Thomas, and Green doesn’t have a read on this one.
‘Who knows with those two,’ laughed Green.
‘Who knows what’s going to happen! And for me, that’s what makes it interesting.’
