Eddie Hearn has admitted he and Frank Warren would be ‘idiots’ not to work together for the good of boxing.

Both promoters are in Saudi Arabia for the ‘Day of Reckoning’ card, which promises to help boxing massively from a financial point of view two days before Christmas in the Middle East.

The likes of Anthony Joshua, Deontay Wilder and Daniel Dubois are on a star-studded card, with both Warren and Hearn representing fighters that will be competing on Saturday,

Both promotors have historically been rivals for a number of years, perhaps none more so than during negotiations for a potential face-off between Joshua and Warren’s Tyson Fury.

But the pair have come together to help promote Saturday’s card, and joined forced to speak to DAZN, with both men explaining the surprise partnership.

‘There’s always rivalry,’ Hearn said. ‘I’m sure there will be rivalry next week, but we’re not idiots.

‘We love the sport  and when there are massive opportunities for our fighters, and our business, and the sport of boxing, we would be plonkers if we didn’t try and make this work.

‘We had a nice evening last night, and maybe we thought, actually, he’s not too bad aftercall.

‘But it’s exciting. I’ve never been involved in anything like this before and like I said, regardless of the rivalry, we love the sport and this is a massive opportunity for boxing.’

And boxing fans could have a lot more to look forward to with two of the biggest promoters in the sport now seemingly on the same page.

That’s a statement made by Warren himself, with a big 2024 seemingly on the agenda.

‘Look, as Eddie said we cannot afford to let this get ruined, and it won’t do,’ Warren said. ‘Everyone is like minded because at the end of the day what counts is the fighters and the fighters are getting life-changing money for these fights.

‘We can’t stand in their way for whatever reasons we feel we might so they will take place. There will be more bigger fights next year we will be working on them.

‘We will be working in association with each other on quite a few events, and I’m looking forward to it because I think this is the start of something really, really big.’
