Georgia Tech vs. Pitt prediction and odds for Tuesday, February 21

I’m not sure how closely anyone is following my picks and my takes, but if we turn back the clock to November, I absolutely ripped Jeff Capel on this very website for being another disaster at Pitt after I thought Kevin Stallings was as big of a mess as you could be as a head coach in the ACC.

Then, out of nowhere the Pitt Panthers flipped a switch, starting winning, and haven’t really stopped. They had a hiccup in Blacksburg over the weekend, a 79-72 loss to Virginia Tech, but the Panthers are 19-8 and 12-4 in ACC play.

Capel’s team was in first place heading into the weekend, but is now third behind Miami and UVA. I’ll take this moment to say I’m sorry Jeff Capel I was wrong… but if Pitt drops a few down the stretch they could still miss the tournament, so I reserve the right to say I was right.

Georgia Tech could certainly throw a wrench in Pitt’s plans tonight. The Yellow Jackets are 11-16 (3-13), but have won their last two. Maybe they stay hot up in Pittsburgh tonight.

Let’s take a look at the odds.

Georgia Tech vs. Pitt prediction and pick

Pitt is the best team in the country in terms of record against the spread. However, there’s a chance that the market is finally catching up to this team and how bad the rest of the ACC is around the top group.

Despite leading the ACC for stretches this season, Pitt is only 58th in KenPom and has the 98th strongest schedule, which is to say it’s not very strong at all for a Power 5 team.

Nothing about Pitt really jumps off the page statistically, but it does have a nice 1-2 punch in Jamarius Burton and Blake Hinson, though Hinson was held to just two points in the loss to Va Tech.

The last time these teams met, the Panthers cruised to a 71-60 win on the road and even withstood a 12-for-29 3-point shooting game from Georgia Tech.

Since getting killed by Clemson and Duke in back-to-back games in late January, the Yellow Jackets have had one of the easiest schedules possible in the ACC.

Yet, they only came out of that stretch 2-3 with an additional win over Florida Tech. I like the Panthers to win big tonight. They’ve been an ATM all season, and I’ll trust them to cover against the team that is No. 202 in KenPom.
