- Mitch Robinson made an impressive start to his boxing career
- Former AFL star defeated Kayne Pettifer on Wednesday night
- He wants to take on a former NRL player next
Mitch Robinson has thrown down the gauntlet to rival stars from the NRL after making an impressive start to his boxing career.
The former Brisbane Lions player, 34, featured on The Gathering on Wednesday night, taking on ex-Tigers star Kayne Pettifer in Adelaide.
Robinson had a tough task in front of him in Pettifer, who boasted an unblemished record after three fights, but showed his natural ability to comfortably win the bout on the judges’ scorecards.
Unlike fellow former footy stars Kane Cornes and Dane Swan – who each played down talk of returning to the ring – Robinson is keen to test himself again.
‘I don’t who is in my weight division from the NRL but AFL versus NRL would make a good occasion,’ he said.

The former Brisbane Lions star won his professional boxing debut on Wednesday night
‘I would love to take on those boys, I know they’d gas out earlier than us but they pack a punch so we’ll see.
‘I’m going to have a few beers, haven’t drunk for eight weeks so I’m keen for a beer, that’s for sure.’
Reflecting on his performance, Robinson was pleased with how he measured up against Pettifer.
‘Kayne has had three fights, three wins, so I was shitting myself a little bit in the rooms,’ he added.
‘But I knew I can punch if i have to, I can do a bit of brawling or I can do some boxing smarts.’
