SEC Tournament action is set to get underway on Wednesday, with the first game being a matchup between the No. 13 seed Ole Miss and the No. 12 seed South Carolina. The winner of the game will face Tennessee in the second round on Thursday.

Both teams were basement dwellers in the SEC all season, winning a combined seven games in conference play. The two teams split their season series, with South Carolina taking the victory in the latest matchup, 64-61.

Let’s dive into the odds for the game and then I’ll give you my best bet.

Ole Miss vs. South Carolina odds, spread, and total

Ole Miss vs. South Carolina prediction and pick

A strong argument could be made that Ole Miss is the better basketball team, and it’d be a strong one. But, now that we’re talking about a 6.5-point spread, I just can’t get there on the Rebels.

Sure, Ole Miss may be better, but that doesn’t mean it is good by any stretch of the imagination. For example, the Rebels rank 314th in effective field goal percentage this season. Only slightly better than South Carolina who comes in at 328th.

A concerning point of contention for Ole Miss lately is turnovers. Over their last three games, the Rebels have coughed the ball up on 21.3% of their possessions. That’s a 3.3% increase from their season average.

It’s going to be hard for them to win with margin if they continue that level of sloppy play.

Let’s be honest, it’s a bad matchup between two of the worst the SEC has to offer. Give me the points with South Carolina and I’ll root for the game to at least stay close.
