Pitt vs. Notre Dame prediction and odds for Wednesday, March 1 (Can Panthers stay on NCAA Tournament path?)

Pitt has been a pleasant surprise this season, on the verge of making its first NCAA Tournament since 2016.

By avoiding a loss to lowly Notre Dame, who has lost seven straight and 11 of 12, Pitt can likely secure a ticket to the ‘Big Dance.’ The Panthers also have a chance at winning the ACC regular season title this weekend against Miami if all goes according to plan, so this game is full of postseason implications.

Can Pitt avoid a look ahead to the Hurricanes this weekend and take care of the Fighting Irish, or do we have an upset on our hands?

Here are the odds:

Pitt vs. Notre Dame prediction and pick

Pitt’s offense has been firing on all cylinders in the month of February, a top 20 unit since the start of the month according to Bart Torvik. The team is shooting well from beyond the arc at nearly 39% but the key has been their top 30 offensive rebounding rate. That will be pivotal against a Notre Dame team that is outside the top 300 in both offensive rebounding rate and 3-point percentage.

If Pitt is able to impose its will on the Irish on the glass and generate second chances while also staying ahead on 3-point makes, this game is going to go sideways for the home team quickly. Notre Dame is also 332nd in generating turnovers this month, so Pitt should have little issue running their preferred offense.

The Irish are 2-16 in ACC play and while this does appear on paper to be a “letdown” spot for the Panthers, I don’t believe Notre Dame has the offense to matchup with them.
