Raiders: Latest Jimmy Garoppolo update could make Davante Adams drama worse

The Las Vegas Raiders signed Jimmy Garoppolo this offseason as a potential replacement for Derek Carr. So far, it’s not going well.

While the Las Vegas Raiders knew about Jimmy Garoppolo’s nagging injury issues when they signed him — or so they claim — it doesn’t make the average fan all too confident.

Garoppolo has a complicated injury history, but by all accounts he should be ready to go by training camp with that foot issue. That’s the good news. The bad news? Jimmy G can’t participate in on-field drills at OTAs. For a player meeting new teammates for the first time and trying to gain some confidence with his targets, it’s not ideal.

Raiders: Davante Adams can’t be happy with Jimmy Garoppolo injury

Not to mention, none of this can make Davante Adams happy. The Raiders star made it clear the Garoppolo wouldn’t have been his first choice a few weeks ago.

“They (the front office) think this is the best bet for us right now to put us in a position to be urgent. We don’t see eye-to-eye on what we think is best for us right now,” Adams said, per The Ringer. “If we play a certain brand of ball, I can get [Garoppolo] to conform to whatever. But if we use him a certain type of way, then it’s going to make it tough for us to maximize who we should be this year.”

Adams went on to admit he tried recruiting Aaron Rodgers, his former quarterback, to the Raiders this offseason.

“I would even go as far as trying to make it happen,” Adams admitted. “Having that distance, and time away, kind of made me miss him.”

If Vegas did in fact know about Garoppolo’s injury, then why didn’t they made a more competitive play for No. 12, or perhaps any other signal-caller?

Whether the Raiders made the right move or not, it’s easy to see how Adams might be upset upon finding out that his new QB isn’t even at full strength, especially when Rodgers — who he has great camaraderie with — was readily available.
