Shakur Stevenson backs Terence Crawford to BEAT Canelo Alvarez after stunning performance against Errol Spence Jr… despite 21lb weight disadvantage

  • Shakur Stevenson believes Terence Crawford would out box Canelo Alvarez
  • Canelo, a super-middleweight (168lb), weighs 21lb more than Crawford (147lb)
  • But Stevenson thinks Crawford’s movement would be too much for Canelo

Shakur Stevenson believes Terence Crawford would beat Canelo Alvarez if they ever fought – despite conceding a 21lb weight disadvantage to the Mexican superstar.

Crawford, who recently became the undisputed champion at welterweight (147lb) with a shut out display against Errol Spence Jr, is intent on walking away from the sport soon but still has a couple of big nights ahead of him before then.

He is currently chasing a blockbuster showdown with undisputed super-welterweight (154lb) champion Jermell Charlo, who is jumping up to Canelo’s natural home of super-middleweight (168lb) to challenge for all-four of his belts on September 30.

Unlike Charlo, Crawford insists he has no interest in securing a fight with Canelo due to the ‘size factor’.

However, Stevenson doesn’t think it would be a problem for the pound-for-pound king.

The former two-weight world champion affirms that ‘skills win fights, not size’ and believes ‘Bud’ has the winning-formula with his southpaw stance, excellent movement and solid fundamentals to cause Canelo a real headache.

When speaking about Crawford’s next steps to iFL TV, Stevenson said: ‘Terrence Crawford is running things right now. As for who he should face next, I would love to see him go up against Charlo.

‘Although Charlo is already lined up against Canelo, I genuinely believe Crawford could beat Canelo.

‘Being a southpaw with good movement and solid boxing, it would be tough for Canelo to walk Crawford down and load up on his powerful hooks.

‘I wish Charlo wasn’t fighting against Canelo but it is what it is. I think Bud could beat Canelo.

‘I would like to see it just because I know like, I don’t think size wins fights, I think skills do.’

Shakur Stevenson doesn't think the size will play as much of a factor as people think and backs Crawford to beat Canelo were they to ever get in the ring together for a mega fight
