  • Fury and Joshua have butted heads their whole careers but put differences aside
  • Ronaldo, meanwhile, has been present at a number of big events in Saudi Arabia
  • Joshua and Ngannou are set to go head-to-head in heavyweight bout on Friday

Some of sport’s biggest stars gathered for an iconic photo on Tuesday evening on the week of Anthony Joshua’s fight against Francis Ngannou in Saudi Arabia.

The two heavyweights will face off in a money-spinning battle in Riyadh on Friday, branded the ‘Knockout Chaos’ event as the nation continues to dominate the hosting of top-level boxing.

A number of celebrity guests are set to be in attendance for the event, perhaps none more headline-worthy than Al Nassr forward Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo has been present at a number of big boxing events in the Middle East, ranging from Jake Paul‘s win over Tommy Fury to the Day of Reckoning in December that saw an awkward interaction between Ronaldo and Conor McGregor go viral.

He is expected to be at the Knockout Chaos event too, and took some time out of his busy schedule to meet up with Joshua and Ngannou – as well as Joshua’s rival Tyson Fury – for an iconic picture on Tuesday.

His Excellency Turki Alalshikh shared the photo and teased an upcoming 'project' for Cristiano Ronaldo

His Excellency Turki Alalshikh shared the photo and teased an upcoming ‘project’ for Cristiano Ronaldo

His Excellency Turki Alalshikh, the chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Authority for Entertainment, organised the meeting, and was front and centre of the photo that is sure to get the sporting world talking.

Alalshikh has been key to arranging some of the events that have taken place in the country, including some of the biggest heavyweight boxing fights.

He shared the photo with the quartet on X (formerly Twitter), teasing a ‘project’ with Ronaldo as he promoted this weekend’s fight and Fury’s bout with Oleksandr Usyk in May, which will also take place in Riyadh.

The winner of Joshua versus Ngannou is expected to take on the winner of Fury versus Usyk, meaning a potential rematch between Joshua and Usyk or Fury and Ngannou is on the cards.

‘With my dear friends, the best athletes in the world in their sports, and big surprises soon…’ Alalshikh posted. ‘And a project with the legend Cristiano Ronaldo in Riyadh that will be announced in the coming months.

‘And waiting for Friday’s fight between Joshua and Ngannou… and waiting for the fight of all times and the fight of the century between the legend Tyson Fury and the amazing and great champion Usyk.’

Ronaldo’s attendance came a day after he returned from a two-game ban for an indecent gesture, playing 90 minutes as Al Nassr lost 1-0 to Al Ain in the AFC Champions League.

He will next be in action on Thursday evening, when his side face Al Raed in league action.
